Ensure that your physical address is visible for deliveries and first responders who need to find your home quickly. The Town requires that all addresses be a minimum of four inches high with a contrasting color to the house background and located by the main entrance. Acceptable materials include metal, plastic or other durable products. Written numbers like "two twenty-nine" are discouraged; use "229" instead. Reflective numbers are encouraged to help with night visibility.

Good home address tips

Numbers: Only numbers are needed; it's unnecessary to include the street name on the address plaque. 

Colors: Ensure address numbers are a contrasting color to their background. Black letters and dark paint don't stand out very well. Gold metal letters can be hard to see on light to medium-colored backgrounds.

Size: The minimum size of each number is four inches tall. The further away your home is from the street, the larger the numbers should be so they can be easily seen from the road.

Location: The plaque should be visible from the street at all times: not behind landscaping, fences, yard art or large vehicles. They should generally be located near the front door, above eye level. 

Condition: Are your numbers faded, peeling or falling off? Check the condition of your numbers and consider getting new ones. 

Lighting: Add lighting near the address plaque if you live in a dark neighborhood. 

Long or split driveway: Residents with a long driveway should place address numbers at the driveway entrance so emergency responders can find it and the home. If you have a shared driveway, put both addresses at the end and then one for each house where the driveway splits. If the home is more than 100 feet from the roadway, an additional address sign may need to be placed near the street.
