Ms. Bergon is a lifelong resident of Pagosa Springs who is passionate about her hometown. As a long-standing council member and engaged community member, Maddy says she "understand[s] where we've been and want to help shape our future." Get to know her better through our Q&A below.

What's your favorite thing to do/place to go in Pagosa Springs?

I enjoy taking advantage of the amazing outdoor recreational opportunities available in Pagosa Country, such as skiing on great powder and following the snow to the river. One of my favorite spots is the downtown whitewater park, and as soon as the water levels rise, you can find me enjoying the thrill of the river!

Why did you choose to run for Town Council?

I wanted to engage in a deeper level of commitment to my community. I've worked in a number of service industries in Pagosa and started my experience in local government on the area Tourism Board. Stepping up to serve on Council seemed like a natural progression, especially as I felt the younger service industry population was lacking in representation.

What upcoming Town projects or initiatives are you excited to work on?

We have a lot on our plate right now! I am excited to see our Sanitation District become more functional and sustainable, secure public river access for different user groups, maintain and grow our public spaces, and encourage more public art!

What Town project or initiative have you been a part of as a member of Council that you're most proud of? Why?

I am particularly proud of the completion of the Town maintenance facility. We had departments basically working out of a broom closet. Town Council and staff worked together to effectively and efficiently see a much-improved space that is functional and aesthetically pleasing, boosting employee morale and productivity and enhancing the neighborhood.

How does your professional work or personal experience/background help inform or influence your duties on Town Council?

As a Pagosa Springs native, I've seen a lot of changes within the community. One thing I've always been proud of is the resilient and creative spirit of our citizens as we face different challenges and opportunities. I understand where we've been and want to help shape our future.

My experience working with diverse user groups and a variety of personalities has enhanced my ability to collaborate and facilitate tough conversations. Through my work in service industries, I understand the ebb and flow of our visitors and the importance of seeing infrastructure that supports our workforce, sustainable business, and augments our quality of life.
