2023 Transportation Projects

An overview of the town's transportation projects completed in 2023

The Public Works Department has been busy in 2023, providing updates and improvements to town trails, crosswalks, sidewalks, drainage and more. See an overview of all the projects completed this year that have helped improve our transportation network town-wide.   

Trail Improvements

  • A section of the River Walk Trail from Hot Springs Blvd. to the 6th St. pedestrian bridge, and the trail along Village Dr. from Pinion Causeway to Eaton Dr. received minor drainage upgrades and new pavement.

Chip and Seal Improvements

  • Eaton Drive and South 6th St. from Hwy 160 to Apache St.

Paving and Other Improvements

  • A new crosswalk was added at the Hwy 160 intersection of N. 1st St. along with new pavement on N. 1st St. from Hwy 160 to the end of town limits.
  • N. 2nd St. received drainage improvements along with repaving from the Lewis St. intersection to Mesa Dr.
  • S. 5th St. from Pirate Dr. to the Archuleta County School District’s bus loop was milled, reshaped and paved.
  • Warranty work on Apache St. between 5th St. and 8th St.
  • Slurry seal work on Lewis St. from 1st St. to 5th St.
  • Mill and overlay work on Aspen Village Drive and Hermosa Street.
  • Parking lot improvements at the Visitor’s Center.

New Projects Completed

  • Pickleball court parking lot and sidewalk installation.
  • New underground electric service lines were installed in conjunction with the McCabe Creek project to include the Geothermal Utility and adjacent properties.
  • Installation of a pedestrian crosswalk facility at Hwy 160 and 1st St.
